Assoc. Prof. Debbie Long

As an academic researcher, Debbie is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Queensland University of Queensland, and embedded in Australia’s largest and most successful interdisciplinary paediatric critical care research group, based at the Children’s Health Research Centre, Brisbane. Over the last 15 years, Debbie has developed a program of research around sedation, delirium and long-term outcomes. She is a successful researcher with significant experience in all facets of clinical research, including multicentre research, trial coordination and student supervision. She is an ongoing representative for the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society, Paediatric Study Group, and currently chair of its Long Term Outcomes Working Group. She is also the co-chair of the ANZICS CORE paediatric patient reported outcome and experience measures (PROEMs) group, aiming to develop an automated follow-up process which links to the ANZPIC registry. In 2021, Debbie developed the PICOLO network, which is a growing collaborative group of clinicians and researchers aiming to improve child and parent support and outcomes post-PICU.
