The Malaysian Society of Intensive Care was established in 2009 with the primary objective of promoting the art and science of intensive care. The Society currently has 260 members comprising intensivists (adults and paediatrics), anaesthesiologists, fellows, nurses and other allied health care providers.

The society organises an annual scientific meeting with the participation of renowned international speakers. Each year more than 1000 participants comprising local and international delegates attend this meeting. In addition, the Society contributes to the improvement of intensive care practices through the organisation of various courses such as the BASIC Course, Beyond BASIC Nephrology, Beyond BASIC Ventilation, and End-of-Life Care Workshops as well as through publications [Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy in the Adult ICU, Consensus Statement on Infection Control Measures in the Intensive Care Unit, and the Communication Handbook].

The Society also plays an important role in the National Intensive Care Credentialling Committee ensuring that practising standards of intensivists in the country are achieved.
