Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS)

ANZICS

ANZICS is the leading advocate on all intensive care related matters within the Australian and New Zealand context and leads the world in intensive care research through its Clinical Trials Group and patient databases. The Society is devoted to all aspects of intensive care medical practice through ongoing professional education, the provision of leadership in medical settings, clinical research and analysis of critical care resources.

ANZICS’ vision is to advocate for Intensive Care throughout Australia and New Zealand and is comprised of a number of special interest committees that provide leadership in specific areas of intensive care:

  • The ANZICS Centre for Outcome and Resource Evaluation (ANZICS CORE) is a bi-national peer review and quality assurance program which has provided audit and analysis of the performance of intensive care since 1992.
  • The ANZICS Clinical Trials Group (CTG) was established by a small group of intensivists committed to seeking better clinical research and greater quality evidence in intensive care medicine. It is one of the world’s largest and most successful critical care research networks.
  • The ANZICS Death and Organ Donation Committee (DODC) represents the Society’s interests in matters related to brain death, organ and tissue donation and organ donation after cardiac death (DCD).
  • The Practice and Economics Committee (PricE) works to promote the welfare of all Intensivists across Australia and New Zealand and also aims to enhance ANZICS advocacy on behalf of these Intensivists.
  • The ANZICS Safety and Quality Committee works to promote world best practice standards in Australian and New Zealand intensive care medicine.
  • The ANZICS Education Committee is dedicated to producing and developing high quality educational material and activities to ensure that ANZICS remains the primary provider of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for Intensive Care Specialists throughout Australia and New Zealand.
  • The ANZICS Paediatric Group is a collaborative effort by Australian and New Zealand Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) and other ICUs that admit paediatric patients, to foster and promote meaningful discussion and research within the Australian and NZ paediatric intensive care communities.
