Optimizing ventilation strategies in critically ill children requires a deep understanding of lung physiology and evidence-based interventions. This session will explore the role of lung recruitment maneuvers and prone positioning in improving oxygenation and outcomes in pediatric patients.
Participants will gain practical insights into the physiological rationale behind these approaches, review current evidence including pARDS and PALICC-2 guidance, and examine different recruitment strategies – with a focus on indications, risks, and clinical applicability. The session will also provide a structured, inter-professional protocol for safely proning pediatric patients, including key pre- and post-procedure considerations.
Finally, we will discuss how to assess patient response and adapt these strategies effectively across diverse PICU settings, including resource-limited environments.
