This year’s campaign, taking place from May 3-9, 2025, will focus on the theme “Technology and Innovation in PICU”
The World PICU Awareness Week Committee exists to raise awareness about #PedsICU in general and any important themes impacting the specialty by engaging members and key stakeholders in awareness and advocacy activities at a global and regional level. This 7 day event culminates in World PICU Awareness Day on the 2nd Friday of May, annually.
This year’s campaign, taking place from May 3-9, 2025, will focus on the theme “Technology and Innovation in PICU”
The aim of this year’s campaign is to raise global awareness about the importance of PICUs and critical care wards in every corner of the world, emphasizing how healthcare professionals in these units, regardless of resource setting, are driving change. From high-resource institutions to rural clinics, PICU teams have been finding innovative solutions to provide the best care for children. We need to highlight how technology and innovation are not confined to wealthy nations but are thriving in diverse settings, showcasing the universal drive to make a difference in pediatric care.
Across the globe, healthcare professionals in resource-limited settings are finding creative solutions to provide life-saving care for children.
We aim to showcase the resourcefulness of Pediatric Critical Care professionals who, in challenging environments, create impactful solutions to improve pediatric care.
This campaign invites all professionals, no matter where they are, to share their stories and strategies to improve child health.
You’re invited! As part of World PICU Awareness Week 2025 (May 3-9), we want PICU and critical care professionals globally to share their success stories and innovations through short self-recorded videos. This is YOUR chance to highlight how your critical care unit or PICU is using technology or creative solutions to improve free and equitable access to good-quality, context-appropriate critical care for children, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status. This aligns with the UN-SDGs, aiming for universal health coverage and ensuring health and well-being for all children, everywhere.
We are particularly keen to hear from healthcare professionals working in diverse settings globally, including experiences with the early identification of critically ill children or those at risk of deterioration. Whether this happens at the community level, in peripheral health facilities, or at district and regional hospitals, we want to highlight how early recognition directly triggers timely emergency and critical care interventions.
A particular focus could be on topics like:
• Improving free access to essential critical care for vulnerable populations.
• Improving essential critical care services on different levels of referral pathways.
• Improving efficiency of patient circuits within your health facility.
• Improving integration of parents/care takers in the care/surveillance of their children.
• Improving post-discharge care.
• Consider also creative measures to improve health worker support and multi-disciplinary teamwork.
• Creative multi-disciplinary training/simulation activities.
Further aspects you could consider:
• Enhancing free access to essential critical care for vulnerable populations.
• Strengthening essential critical care services across various levels of referral pathways.
• Increasing the efficiency of patient flow within healthcare facilities.
• Improving the quality of intensive and critical care services.
• Improving the integration of parents and caregivers in the care and monitoring of their children.
• Enhancing post-discharge care and continuity of care.
