The forerunner of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) was formed on June 14, 1954, coinciding with the birthdays of Dr. Sudjono D. Pusponegoro and Prof. Sutedjo. As the first chairman of IDAI (1954-1968) was Prof. Dr. Sudjono D. Pusponegoro with board members Prof. MD Hidayat, Dr. Sutedjo, Dr. Te Bek Siang, Dr. Ismangoen, Dr. Kwari Satjadibrata, Dr. Kho Ling Keng, and Dr. Jo Kian Tjaij. The next chairman of IDAI was Prof. Sutedjo I (1968 – 1974), Prof. RO Odang (1974 -1975), Dr. AH Markum (1975 – 1978 and 1978 – 1981), Dr. Sofyan Ismael (1981 – 1984), Dr. Sumarmo Poorwo Soedarmo (1984 – 1987), Prof. Dr. AH Markum (1987 – 1989) because Prof. AH Markum died in 1989, Dr. Asril Aminullah (1989 – 1990, Dr. M. Hardjono Abdoerrachman (1990 – 1993), Dr. Asril Aminullah (1993 – 1996), Dr. Noenoeng Rahajoe (1996 – 1999), Dr. Jose Rizal Latief Batubara (1999-2002), Dr. Hardiono D. Pusponegoro (2002-2005), Dr. Sukman Tulus Putra (2005-2008), Dr. Badriul Hegar (2008-2014), DR. Dr. Aman B. Pulungan (2014-2020) and the management period was extended as a result of the Extraordinary KONIKA related to the COVID-19 Pandemic (2020-2021), dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso (2021 – 2024).

IDAI is the only professional organization of Indonesian Pediatricians under the auspices of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI). In English, IDAI is called the Indonesian Pediatric Society. IDAI is based on Pancasila, aims to participate in improving the health and welfare of children, developing pediatric health science, and improving the welfare of its members. To achieve its goals, IDAI assists the government in fostering and improving the quality of pediatric health services, actively participating in research on pediatric health and child welfare, providing direction, coaching, and implementing pediatric health science education, improving the professional capabilities of pediatricians, collaborating with regional and international pediatrician organizations, other child health and welfare organizations, in addition to uniting, fighting for and maintaining the interests/position of Indonesian pediatricians.

The term of office of the IDAI Central Board is 3 years, with the secretariat located in the capital of the Republic of Indonesia. IDAI members are obliged to uphold and practice the doctor’s oath and the Indonesian Medical Code of Ethics (KODEKI), the Articles of Association (AD) and Bylaws (ART) of IDAI, regulations and decisions of IDAI. Until KONIKA XIV in 2008 in Surabaya, East Java, the number of officially registered IDAI members was 2305 people. KONIKA XV in Manado, the number of registered IDAI members was 2562 people. At KONIKA XVI in Palembang, the number of registered members was 3168 people. At KONIKA XVII in Yogyakarta, the number of registered members was 3751 people. Meanwhile, until KONIKA XVIII in Jakarta and Medan, the number of registered members was 4741 people.
