Prof. Dr. Özlem Tekşam, after completing her specialist training in Pediatrics and Diseases at Hacettepe University and her subspecialty training in Neonatology at Hacettepe University, began working as Chief of the Pediatrics Outpatient Clinic (Head of the General Pediatrics Department and Pediatric Emergency Outpatient Clinic). In 2000, she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of Minnesota and in the Pediatric Emergency Department at “The Hospital for Sick Kids” in Canada in 2006. She received her subspecialty certificate in Pediatric Emergency in 2009. She completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Toxicology at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Pharmacy in 2017. Dr. Tekşam, who received the title of Associate Professor in 2010, has been Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Medicine since 2015. His special research and research areas include obesity, constipation, healthy nutrition, accident prevention, triage, disasters, trauma, and toxicology. In 2015, he served as Deputy Chief Physician of İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital. He has also taken an active role in the accreditation efforts of İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital since 2005. He served as co-chair of the Strategic Advisory Committee on Children in Humanitarian Emergencies of the International Pediatric Association (IPA) for the 2021-2023 term. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish National Pediatric Association and President of the Turkish Association of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the European Association of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (EUSEP). He is also the editor of the Pediatric Emergency section of the Turkish Journal of Pediatrics.
