The Latin American Society of Pediatric Intensive Care (SLACIP) is a multidisciplinary organization bringing together professionals in Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care who are committed to improving the management of critically ill pediatric patients across Latin America.
Slacip History
Scientific progress cannot exist without a true “scientific community.” An isolated researcher risks falling into the trap of self-fulfilling hypotheses, unable to challenge personal biases that confirm preconceived ideas. As philosopher Karl Popper explained, the validity of any scientific theory depends on its exposure to open discussion and criticism. Through this process of “trial and error,” knowledge advances.
In this spirit, the existence of SLACIP is essential to both medical and scientific development in the region. The Society provides a platform where findings from individual pediatric intensivists can be discussed, validated, or refuted collectively across Latin America. It fosters collaborative research, supports the creation and dissemination of regional diagnostic and treatment consensus guidelines, and promotes preventive actions within the specialty.
Mission
SLACIP strives for excellence in the management of critically ill pediatric patients throughout Ibero-America by promoting education, research, and continuous professional development. It advances multidisciplinary collaboration and maintains active cooperation with the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies (WFPICCS).
Vision
The Society aims to serve as a hub for connection, research, integration, and ongoing education among professionals dedicated to pediatric critical care. It encourages collaborative work, effective communication, and knowledge sharing to ensure high standards in diagnosis, therapy, and the overall quality of care provided to children in emergencies and intensive care.
