Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics, Intensive Care Medicine and Neonatology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Geneva, Dr. Peter Rimensberger was Director of the Service of Neonatology and Paediatric Intensive Care, Department of Paediatrics, at the University Hospital of Geneva until 2022.

His special fields of interests are respiratory physiology, respiratory failure and cardio-pulmonary interactions with a well-known expertise in mechanical ventilation in neonates and children. He has published more than 180 peer reviewed articles and reviews and edited a major textbook on paediatric and neonatal mechanical ventilation.

Besides his activity as reviewer for many scientific journals he was associate editor of Pediatric Research, editorial advisory board member of Intensive Care Medicine, and editorial board member of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Currently, he is a section editor of Intensive Care Medicine – Paediatric and Neonatal . He was an executive committee member of the European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC) in various positions from 2002 to 2019, and was elected medical president from 2015 to 2017. In 2021 he was awarded the Denis Devictor Award for recognition of lifelong contribution to PICU/NICU care.
